PROGRAM MANAGER


Title: Program Manager

Supervised by: Program Director 

Status: Full-time, salaried 

Salary level: Manager

Pay: $65,000-$70,000 per year

Location:  Work from home, must be based in relative proximity to the Twin Cities, MN; co-working space available

Anticipated Start Date:  February 10, 2025

Organizational Overview 

Every day, people are making decisions about sex, pregnancy, and parenting, and many of them encounter enormous challenges due to lack of resources and support. 

Our Justice has always worked to provide people with the resources they need to access reproductive care now, while also advocating for policy change that would make these resources more available and remove many of these challenges altogether. Founded in 1967 by a small group of doctors, clergy, and community members to assist Minnesota women in accessing abortion care, Our Justice continues to support people’s reproductive and sexual human rights. 

Position Description 

The Program Manager at Our Justice will play a crucial part in being responsible for supporting and providing direct services with the abortion assistance fund, developing insurance navigation for clients, and cultivating relationships with other service organizations to advance the organization's mission of Reproductive Justice. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of barriers to abortion access and will contribute to the growth and improvement of Our Justice’s programs. This role requires a compassionate and strategic thinker who can effectively help clients navigate their insurance options, create and maintain external relationships, and grow Our Justice’s direct service programming in alignment with our values.


Essential Job Functions 

Support & Direct Service (approximately 50% of the position) 

  • Manage Medicaid navigation process for all clients who need assistance.

  • Help manage the free Plan B program, including scheduling volunteer shifts, answering volunteer questions, and training new volunteers.

  • Act as a compassionate abortion assistance fund advocate, managing intake and funding eligibility determinations for callers with complex needs.

  • Provide support and problem-solving assistance to volunteers and clients via phone, email, or text.

  • Step in as an advocate when necessary, ensuring client needs are met.

  • Cultivate expertise in the abortion access landscape, offering guidance to clients and volunteers.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with abortion providers and external organizations to advance the program's mission.

  • Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure up-to-date technology needs.

  • Support Program Director and Finance Director in invoicing and billing processes.

Program Infrastructure & Development (approximately 40% of the position)

  • Create relationships with other organizations that could meet client needs beyond our services and provide referrals to clients

  • Develop and maintain a resource list for clients for services beyond what Our Justice provides

  • Lead community outreach activities to raise awareness of the organization's mission.

  • Work with Program Director, Executive Director, and Finance Director to research potential new direct service offerings that Our Justice may provide

  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate program data to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Communications Director to develop and update client-facing materials.

  • Participate in community activities to expand the program's reach and impact.


Other (approximately 10% of the position) 

  • Support the work of additional Our Justice committees as needed.

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications. 

  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.

  • Perform duties required of all staff to support smooth internal operations such   as submitting timely reports and reimbursement requests.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director

  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities

approved by Our Justice, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations relevant to your role.


Travel Expectations 

Ability to travel locally within the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan 

area is required. 

Travel precautions and suspensions will be made in order to ensure safety amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Qualifications 

Job experience requirements 


  • Understanding of barriers to abortion access and Reproductive Justice; ideally, experience with abortion fund program support.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in direct program support and operations either through volunteer or professional activities.

  • Expertise in understanding both private and public health insurance; folks with MNSURE navigator training are highly encouraged to apply.

  • Empathetic listener with a strong ability to understand and meet clients' needs.

  • Compassionate, reflective, and able to work independently.

  • Ability to self-manage and work outside traditional work week, including some evenings and weekends. 

  • Experience with or strong connections to movements led by-and-for young Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) most directly impacted by and best positioned to end gender oppression.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Program Director, staff, and board members.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Preference for candidates with lived experience accessing abortion care and working with marginalized communities.

Specific skill sets 

  • Comfortable using online tools and platforms such as Google Suite and Slack.

  • Candidate has a strong confidence center - is comfortable handling the change that comes from working with a small organization in a period of transformation and growth. 

  • Leadership style that is emotionally intelligent, transparent, and self-reflective.

  • Experience in database management and online training modules.

  • Experience in managing volunteers.

  • Familiarity with budget management, financial tracking, and performance assessment.

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and able to work without significant day-to-day supervision. 

  • Open to giving and receiving feedback and committed to practicing this regularly.

  • Appreciation of working with diverse staff and board in an organization committed to racial justice. 

  • Demonstrates commitment to organizational stability.

● Our Justice is led by a volunteer board and committees who regularly meet in off hours including evenings and weekends. Our Justice staff must be flexible and able to attend these meetings as much as possible, being able to prioritize their time in a flexible way. 

● Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing. 

● This position is full time, with the employee's regular full time schedule to be approved by the supervisor. 

● Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus. 

● Some work at off-site locations may be required; Our Justice aims for accessibility in any off-site location that we have control of, but some of them may not be fully accessible. 

● This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person. 

● This role requires frequent sitting.
